The San Mateo Adult School is looking for patient, friendly, and enthusiastic individuals to tutor English as a Second Language and Citizenship students in the morning or evening. Literacy Tutors work with students individually or in small groups in a teacher-supervised classroom setting. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with adults from diverse cultures who are pursuing life goals such as attaining citizenship, helping their children with homework, and improving their career potential.

Volunteers should have native or near-native English fluency, an abundance of patience, and an interest in working with people of diverse cultures. There is one Saturday training/orientation session followed by one observation of the class where the volunteers would work.
